Def Jam Hip-Hop Artist WAX Releases New Music Video "Coins"

Wax began his love affair with music at a very early age, thanks to three little letters: MTV. “My dad was kind of a couch potato, so we were the first people in the neighborhood to get cable,” the Dunkirk, Maryland native recalls. “I had MTV from a really early age.” Raised on a healthy diet of Guns N Roses, Def Leppard, and NWA, it wasn’t long before Wax wanted to make music of his own.

At ten years old, he received a guitar for his birthday and learned to play, pairing his strumming with rhymes. That eventually led to Wax starting a band called MacGregor (“Like the cheap sporting equipment”), touring the country and making records in the hopes of getting signed. “We didn’t really know what we were doing though,” he says.

Honing his craft for years, Wax’s sound is an amalgam of various influences. Simply put, he describes his sound as a mix of “Johnny Cash and Jay‐Z”. Ambitious artists to align himself with, but listening to his music, the word “authentic” comes to mind. “I think the reason why my sound comes off as so authentic and organic is because I’ve been doing it for so long,” he explains. “ I’ve been in a band, I’ve been on tour performing for live crowds, and I have a twin brother who I grew up making music with…we influenced each other.” Of course, people who listen with their eyes will place Wax with career white rappers. “People say Sublime, people say Eminem, people say Beastie Boys. Any white rapper they say I sound like,” Wax comments, but he doesn’t take that negatively. “I don’t care about the stigma about white rappers because I don’t give a fuck what people say about me,” he continues. “That stuff just doesn’t bother me. Everybody has to reference something they already know.”

Wax is currently in the process of working on his debut album, but to tide fans over has the Scrublife mixtape; “scrublife” being a term he holds near and dear to his heart. “Scrublife is the representation of a lifestyle, and if y’all were here right now, I wouldn’t even have to say shit,” Wax jokes. “In my kitchen right now, there’s eggs all over my floor, it’s horrific in here. That’s kind of like the representation of what Scrublife is. Living dirty, living broke, and not caring. It’s the opposite of excess.”

“Scrublife” has since evolved into Wax’s record label name, a joint venture with Def Jam. The Scrublife mixtape will include new songs as well as old songs, and will serve as a precursor to Wax’s formal debut. As Wax continues his journey to fame, with a fan base constantly swelling (he’s already had fans show up on his doorstep), he maintains his Scrublife mantra while reinventing the wheel of Hip‐Hop. “Picture a rapper with a gold chain and a car…I’m the exact opposite of that,” he says. “Beer bottles all over the place, and a smile on your face.”

Biography

Rising to become one of Miami's most talented and recognized artists is not easy- Omniscient has done just that. Omniscient has earned the respect of his peers, and a reputation as someone who steadily accomplishes his goals. It is the ability to maintain his individualism in an industry full of carbon copies that makes Omniscient stand out. After receiving positive responses at local open-mics, cypher's and shows, Hip-Hop began to take on a new form for Omniscient. No longer just a hobby or a pastime, but a potential future. Om decided to focus exclusively on his music and becoming a better artist.

In 2004 Omniscient started working his crew Flow Official's E.P. Thatz how we build & Awareness the mixtape & succesfully got a project licensed by a german distibution company (Europe) for an overseas release. The album brought some brief international touring & great collaborations for some more European accolades & nominations- Omniscient returned home with a vision of the future, ready to get back to work and advance his now promising career.

Om's life changed drastically in 2005 when he was diagnosed with some cancerous tumors, everything became secondary to his health wich took a stab at what he had worked so hard to accomplish up until then. 12 to 14 months later he returns to the scene noticing time waits for no one & he now had to start building his name & career all over again, from scratch. Still wanting to work he surprisingly continued to record music while on chemotherapy allowing him to release Vocal Revolution the mixtape late 2006.

Omniscient really began to develop his identity as an artist & in 2008 After connecting with Locos por Juana, Om, for the first time really started showcasing himself in industry respected venues & festivals on a more regular basis to the extreme of being Nominated for an American Grammy for his collaboration with the band on La Verdad lp released by Universal/Machete wich was nominated for Best Latin/Alternative album of the year & earned him a trip to the Grammy's in L.A., which for many, put him on the map as a legitimate rising star in Miami's Music scene.

Omniscient has opened up for legendary artists such as Earth Wind & Fire, Gangstarr, Ludacris, Smiff & Wesson, Tego Calderon, Killah Priest, Cultura Profetica, The Roots, Immortal Technique & many more. Performances in Europe, USA, Latin America. Records released in those continents plus the country of Japan.

I’m getting married in a few weeks and I’m so excited! I just can’t wait to marry my best friend but more than anything else, I’m going to just be happy to put all this wedding planning stuff behind me! I am so sick of looking into colors and dresses and flowers I could scream and I never had any idea it was going to be such a hassle to get everything the way I wanted it. I’m also really, really pumped for the Honeymoon which will be immediately following since we’re going to France! I’ve never been to Europe and I can’t wait to kick back and relax in one of the most romantic countries in the world. We’ve been preparing for months and all I have to do now is pack! In a previous interview with MTV News, Wolfgang explained how his collaboration with will.i.am came about, "[The song] was originally just an instrumental track that I had made that I sent to my manager, and he thought it needed vocals so he gave it to Will and Will liked it. And the next day, we had a track back with a full will.i.am vocal over it. It was just amazing. Didn't need any work at all. Just threw it on top of the track and we got a single called 'Forever.' Completely spontaneous and accidental but it's one of my favorite songs."





Currently, Wolfgang is touring the international festival circuit, making stops in Portugal, Belguim, Australia, the United Kingdom, Austria, Poland, and the United States.
